The African American Parade Celebration in Shreveport, Louisiana, will celebrate its 36th Year on February 3, 2024. For the past 21 years, 13 states have been involved in the Celebration. The parade route starts on Milam Street, east to Market, then north on Market Street to Texas Avenue, and then west on Texas Avenue to Common Street where it ends.
The African American Parade Celebration begins each year during February for Black History Month. This event has been recognized by the offices of the Mayor, the Governor, the Attorney General, and the United States Senate for the past 30 years, with a proclamation and resolution. The celebration, which promotes unity and strength, also makes an economic impact and benefits the entire Shreveport community
The City of Shreveport has hosted the Annual African American History Parade Celebration during February’s Black History Month and features local groups entertaining and delighting spectators. A new theme is featured each year with a special emphasis on military groups and local veterans. Parade riders toss candy and Mardi Gras beads along the parade route.
